Abuse victim sues due to total failure of the rule of law

We were pleased to receive the information in a letter dated September 23, 2019 that the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth have acknowledged Antje Wienberg, née Dreist, as a victim of familial sexual abuse and that, contrary to our expectations and after years of tenacious resistance, the Health Authority/Medical Administration was able to convince the staff of the Social Psychiatric Service in Neubrandenburg to allow the victim to inspect the files concerning her.

It cannot be overlooked that Antje Wienberg, née Dreist, had to wait more than twenty years until this lack of recognition was acknowledged. In addition, in light of credible sexual abuse, it can be proven that the responsible members of the Social Psychiatric Service, in cooperation with local experts and physicians, have carried out clearly inaccurate medical evaluations for many years and have breached their duty of confidentiality with regard to unauthorized persons. This has obviously resulted in them discrediting and denying what she has experienced.

We will still not abandon our demands to convene a committee of inquiry after my petition was rejected on the advice of the Ministry of Health in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, led by Minister Harry Glawe, an orderly at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University Greifswald, Clinic for Neurology and Psychiatry, who worked there for many years during the GDR era.

Should we succeed in persuading the political leaders to convene a committee of inquiry to investigate human rights violations in these notorious institutions in Neubrandenburg and Ueckermünde, one can assume that events and incidents will be brought to light that are beyond our wildest imagination.
